H27 Silberhorn hut 2663m 637.96/156.42 SAC, 12 beds, no resident

guardian.
The hut can be approached from Wengen but this particular
way is quite
dangerous. It is much safer to start at the Schilthorn
lift
station N of Stechelberg. From the S entrance to the parking area
walk S on the road
to Stechelberg for about 300m to a stream. Walk
up the N side of the
stream for 150m to the start of the climb. The
route is marked from
here. Zig-zag up fields and undergrowth to a
steep rocky section.
Climb this by a couloir to the N, then
cross
another couloir before climbing straight up through more
undergrowth and
stony slopes with short rock steps until 50m below
a rock wall. Move
600m S, at first through woods then climbing
gradually up little
gullies and through bushes, to reach a big open
couloir.
Cross a slab (cable) then climb straight up for about 200m
)cables near the
top). There is a bivouac cave under the rocks here.
Traverse S, with little ascent, through
undergrowth and across
pastures with a few
pines to a flat area and fine view point.
Follow a rocky ramp SE to its end then go up
steep grass and
stone slopes for
about 250m, at first straight up then towards the S
to a broad and flat
grassy area at about 2080m. Turn NE and climb
rocky steps and
grassy slopes then up the edge of a gully to reach the
area called Stralblatti. Climb a rock band by a metal ladder and
reach the hut in a
few mins. 6hr

From Ausserberg
(signposted from Visp via Baltschieder
and
fromPt
636.2m on the Visp to Turtmann
road) drive through the
village (road to Ranft) as far as the first hairpin bend. Just above this
a short sliproad L leads to a tunnel entrance (parking). Either walk
through the tunnel
(20min) and then follow a near horizontal path
into the Baltschiedertal to join a water course, or from the hairpin
bend descend a few mE and follow a spectacular path alongside
another water course
that the tunnel route joins. In descent follow
the signpost "Zum Stollen" for the tunnel
route.
Leave the water course at a chalet just N of
Pt 1284m and
climb steadily up a
path toPt 1483m, where a bridge crosses the
river near a cluster
of chalets. On the other side of the river continue
N and then steeply NE up meadows to Martischipfa where another
bridge is crossed.
There is a bivouac near here (1960m, white
marker) with straw and
blankets). Continue, past the tiny chapel at
Hohbitzu, on a
winding track to a painted sign on rocks directing
the way to the Stockhorn bivouac hut. For the Baltschiederklause
hut keep to the path
and cross a third bridge. Follow a flat and
rather indistinct
path on the E side of the river to a signpost at the
start of the final
climb. This is up boulder strewn slopes at first then
crosses Lwards, over numerous streams issuing from the Innre
Baltschieder
glacier, to the lateral moraine which leads, via a short
rock scramble, to
the hut. 5-7hr

From Ausserberg
follow the route to the Baltschiederklause
hut to just beyond
the chapel at Hohbitzu. From the painted sign
follow traces of
track NW to the footof the N-most gully cutting
through the rock
wall. Climb this using the 200m of chains as
necessary, to reach
grass and stone slopes leading W to the hut.

From the Gasteretal
follow Route 203 but instead of climbing
to the Petersgrat continue easily up the Kanderfirn
to the hut. 4-5hr
Note: the road into the Gasteretal
is a toll road. Pay at the caf6
alongside the Stockbahn lift station. There is a bus service.
From Stechelberg
follow signposted paths to Obersteinberg
and from the hotel
there continue on a path to the Oberhornsee at
2065m. Get onto
the moraine of the Tschingel glacier and climb this
to the N foot of Chanzel. Continue SW up the Tschingelfirn
to the
hut. 6-8hr
From the Kiental climb to the Gspaltenhorn
hut then follow
Routes 284 and 283 to the
hut. 6hr from Griesalp
From the Lotschental follow Route 191 to the Wetterlucke
then walk under the
S face of the Tschingelhorn. Contour W to the
Petersgrat and
descend to the hut from the saddle at Pt 3122m. Shr
