H14     Burg hut c 1900m on the ridge on the E side of Glingulwasser

P          N of Fieschertalvillage 653.52/144.63 property of Fiesch guides.

Make bookings via Volken Sport in Fiesch (tel 028 71 13 18).

Approach from Fieschertal by driving through the village and

continue for about 2km. Park at a fork in the road. Follow signs in

either direction to the Fiescher glacier. The hut is on the ridge

where a path joins the ridge from W, at the top of a gully due W of

the Fiescher glacier snout. 1.5 hr

Kithboden hotels 2212m sited at the top of the first stage of the

lift to the Eggishorn from Fiesch. A Youth hostel with 96 beds

tel: 028 -71 17 46 and the Jungfrau Hotel with 130 dormitory beds

tel: 028-71 19   88

 

H15     Gletscherstubba hut c 2375m just W of the reservoir at Marjela

P          651.00/143.45 property of Fiesch guides. Make bookings via

Volken Sport in Fiesch (tel028 71 13 18). Approach from Fiesch

either by driving to Fieschertalvillage and following signs to

Marjela (road for 2km), 4-5hr, or use the lih to Kilhboden and

follow a good path from there to Miiriela. 1 .5 hr

H16 Schreckhorn hut 2530m 650.60/159.15 tel036 55 10 25 SAC,

RE 90 beds, July- Sept. Approach from Grindelwald by lift to

Pfingstegg then take the path via Stieregg above the E side ofthe

Und Grindelwald glacier and the Und Ischmeer before climbing the

rocks of Rots Grufer (ladders and cables). The going eases but there

is some danger of avalanche in the gullies which must be crossed.

Grosse Scheidegg hotel 1962m sited at the col of the same

name tel. 036 53 12 09. Dormitory accomodation available. Note

that the road to the pass is private and closed to cars other than

those of the local inhabitants. There is a bus service.

 

H17     Gleckstein hut 2317m 650.40/163.97 tel. 036 53 11 40 SAC,

PE       100 beds, June- Sept. Approach from Grindelwald by car or post-

bus to the Wetterhorn Hotel. Walk from here or take the post-bus

towards Grosse Scheidegg as far as Loichbiel. Either way reach

Pt 1590m then take the rising track SW, which climbs above the

Oberer Grindelwald glacier to the hut. There is a waterfall to

negotiate on the way. 3.5 hr or 2.5 hr

 

 

 

H18     Konkordiahut 2850m 647.18/150.09 tel. 036551394 SAC,

F          129 beds (some in the old hut), April- Sept.

Approach from Fiesch by lih to Kuhboden then path to

Marjela. Pass on the N side of the Marjelesee to Platta and follow

traces of rough track down to the Aletsch glacier. Climb the glacier

close to its central moraine and then before it makes a final rise to

the Konkordiaplatz, move over to the E side and follow the lateral

moraine to the rocks upon which the hut stands. Follow these round

to where a metal staircase leads up to the hut from the N side of the

rocks. The last part of the glacier is quite crevassed. Shr

From the Jungfraujoch follow Route H13 to the Grfineggfirn

and cross this to the metal staircase. 2hr

From the Hollandia hut by reversing Route 205 (1 .5 hr) and

from the Finsteraarhorn hut by Routes 91 and 90. 2.5 hr

 

H19     Mittellegihut 3355m 644.76/159.30propertyofGrindelwald

AD-     Guides, 14 beds, no resident guardian, often crowded. There is a

second hut reserved exclusively for guides but there is space for a

few people in the wood shed if overcrowding is desperate in the old

hut. Obtain the key from the Guides bureau in Grindelwald or from

the Monchjoch hut.

From the Eismeer station on the Jungfraujoch railway go out

onto the glacier via a tunnel. Turn L and climb N through a short

serac zone onto the Challifirn. Follow the snow slopes round to the

rocks at the second, narrow tongue of snow cutting into the rocks

below the big tower on the Mittellegi ridge. Climb the rocks on the

E side of the tongue of snow (III-) then move up over easier, ledged

rocks diagonally Rwards to the hut on the ridge. There is danger of

stonefall all the way. 2-2.5 hr
